2008 WiG Special Guest: Angela Krauß

Born 1950 in Chemnitz, Angela Krauß is a long-time resident of Leipzig, where she also studied at the Literary Institute "J.R. Becher." In 1988 she won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize for Der Dienst, a story that tells of her father, a border officer who committed suicide at the time of the invasion of Czechoslovakia. Since then she has published a number of prose texts, with topics on relationships and places ranging from life in the GDR and reflections on post-wall identity to explorations of the USA, Russia, and, most recently, Trieste.

Angela Krauß has given readings and held guest lectureships in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, England, and India. She has received many prizes, and in 2004, she gave the prestigious poetic lectures at the University of Frankfurt; the published version (Die Gesamtliebe und die Einzelliebe) was honored with the “Kammweg”literary prize in 2006.

Wig is not new to Angela Krauß, as she was one of the guests at the1990 conference, where she was warmly received.  With that positive experience in mind she is very much looking forward to joining us again. If you want to read some of her texts before the WiG annual conference, here are four that give particularly good examples of her themes and style:
