Women in German Professional Development Award for contingent faculty

Recognizing that contingent faculty members comprise two-thirds of teaching faculty at colleges and universities today and that these faculty members often lack access to traditional funding sources, Women in German offers funding specifically for contingent faculty. One award in the amount of $1500 will be granted each year to support professional development opportunities or projects relevant to feminist German Studies.

Anyone holding a non-tenure track or part-time teaching position is eligible to apply. Students and tenure-track or tenured faculty are not eligible. Applicants must be members of Women in German.

This award is designed to support the professional development of contingent faculty in myriad ways, including but not limited to conference travel, research, or other professional activities. We seek proposals for projects or opportunities with a demonstrated relevance to feminist German Studies that will also contribute substantially to the professional development of the applicant.

Proposal Guidelines
In a statement of no more than 750 words, describe the project or professional development opportunity, specify how the funding will be used, and explain the intended outcomes. Please include a timetable and budget and list any funding anticipated from other sources. The statement should also include a brief description of your position as a contingent faculty member.

Proposals should be submitted to Beth Muellner ( by December 1, 2017. The Award Committee, consisting of the WiG President and two other WiG members, will consider applications and send notifications.

Recipient Responsibility
If possible and appropriate, recipients should present the results of their research at the WiG conference (in a poster or panel presentation). Acknowledgement of the award in any related publications is expected.
